The 5:2 Diet: Week Two

Me This Week

This week has been all about fighting the cravings. I went into week two thinking that it was going to be a doddle, as I had already survived week one. Wrong. If anything it has taken more willpower to get through the fast days and resist that afternoon treat (or morning, mid morning, early afternoon, evening, midnight...I think you get the idea). I can't explain why, but all I can put it down to is lack of enthusiasm. I went into week one thinking, 'I'm going to kick ass at this - 500 calories? No problem!' Whereas this week, it's been more like 'Is it time to go to bed yet so I can finally stop feeling hungry'. Not ideal.

But however I was feeling, I still did it (although I may cheated ever so slightly on the second fast day). Again, I haven't had a great week otherwise with pancake day, catching up with friends and comfort eating on the most depressing day of the year for single people - Valentine's Day.

So my fast days went like this:

Day 1 - Monday

Breakfast - Porridge sachet made with water (98 calories), one teaspoon of golden syrup (16 calories)

Lunch - 1/2 pot of Spicy Red Lentil & Tomato Soup (150 calories)

Snack - 1 bag of salted popcorn (123 calories)

Dinner - 2 poached eggs (120 calories), 1/2 bag spinach (20 calories)

Total - 527 calories

Day 2 - Wednesday

Breakfast - Porridge sachet made with water (98 calories), one teaspoon of golden syrup (16 calories)

Lunch - 1/2 pot of Spicy Red Lentil & Tomato Soup (150 calories)

Snack - 1 Freddo (98 calories)

Dinner - Porridge sachet made with water (98 calories), one teaspoon of golden syrup (16 calories)

Total - 473

I told you I found it hard. That Freddo on day two was literally the highlight of my day, and I made that tiny chocolate bar last a good half an hour by taking the smallest bites possible. Looking back it may been slightly ridiculous, but it made my day easier. I may have also gone to the cinema on Wednesday evening and snacked on pretzels and toffee popcorn, which is why I cheated slightly, but I had a few spare calories which makes it ok...right?!

Anyway, chocolate treats and cinema snacks aside I lost another 1lb this week which I think is still good going considering how the week panned out. Faith and sanity restored, I'm going back to the 'kick ass' mindset next week.

There are alternatives to having a skin tag froze, burned or
