A Guide To Cleaning Make-Up Brushes

This post is less on the glamourous side, but most definitely an essential to anyone that applies make-up with brushes.

Cleaning your make-up brushes may not be a fun task but is one that has to be done regularly. You use these brushes probably once a day, maybe more for touch ups so just think about all the dirt and bacteria that you are pushing around your face and into your products. Not nice when you think about it like that eh? But it really is the truth which is why regular cleaning is a must - you wouldn't sleep in dirty sheets or use an old towel after having a shower, so why would your make-up brushes be any different?

In an ideal world you would clean them after every use, but obviously most people don't have the time for this. I try and do mine once a week but time does often get the better of me. Even if you can factor in once a month it is better than nothing, and trust me, you will notice the difference straight away. Plus a lovely clean and soft brush feels amazing to use.

So how do you go about cleaning them I hear you ask? It's really simple, all you need is some shampoo/gentle cleanser and warm water. Lather the brush in shampoo like you would your hair, rinse in warm water and repeat until the water runs clean. Gently put them back into shape and leave to dry flat for a few hours. Under no circumstances should you leave these to dry upright. If you stand them up whilst wet the water will run down into the brush head and will cause the brushes to come loose. You will literally see your money going down he drain (or your face).

So there you have it, a guide to saving your skin and keeping your brushes in good condition.
