SUMMER

So summer has been and gone, and with it my lack of blogging. It's been a hectic few months and I have spent most of it running around various fields, hence not being able to blog. But fear not, I'm back on track and ready to bombard you with beauty bits, baking recipes and general rambling.

Cinnamon Buns

I've been wanting to make cinnamon buns for ages, but just haven't had the time recently (hence the lack in posts), but I was given an amazing baking book for my birthday with a really easy recipe for cinnamon buns so I thought it was the perfect time to give them a go!

Nivea In Shower Body Moisturiser

I'm going to start of by saying I'm lazy. I don't need to beat around the bush and pretend I'm not, because I really I am. If there is an easy option, I'll take it. So when I heard about this new product from Nivea I knew we would get on.

Rimmel Lycra Pro & Salon Pro Nail Varnish

It's no secret that I love Rimmel. I think they produce great products that are really affordable, but don't scrimp on the quality and these nail colours are no exception.

A Guide To Cleaning Make-Up Brushes

This post is less on the glamourous side, but most definitely an essential to anyone that applies make-up with brushes.

Brand Spotlight: Oribe

Oribe (pronounced or-bay) is a brand I was introduced to sometime in 2011 as part of my old job, and I have to admit that I wasn't overly familiar with it before then. But my how that has changed.

W. Travels: Edinburgh

A view of Edinburgh from the top of a hill

Last weekend I took a long overdue trip up to stay with my aunt who lives just outside of Edinburgh in East Lothian. I had such a lovely time and wanted to share some pictures and a bit about what we did whilst I was there.

Findation

So you want to try a new foundation, but don't want the hassle of finding a make up counter and spending ages deliberating over which shade suits you best? Well fear not, I've made an amazing discovery - Findation

Join The Club...

So I've decided to start a new feature called 'The Club' which I'm hoping to run either once or twice a month, dependent on time. Essentially it's going to be something I've really enjoyed such as a book, film, album, restaurant etc. you get the idea. I think it'll be a nice way to share something I like, and hopefully give you inspiration for something new as well.

Gielly Green Argan Rescue

Gielly Green Argan Rescue is my go-to hair saviour. There are so many Argan oils on the market now, with MoroccanOil probably being the most well known, but I haven't tried them all so I'll just tell you what I know about this one, and about Argan oil.

Topshop Nails

Another shopping trip, another beauty product I can't resist buying. I see a pattern emerging here...

So I was in Topshop, browsing the make-up as you do and noticed that they are now doing two for £8 on nail varnish, so obviously I had to pick a couple up. The first one that caught my eye was the shade Winterfrost as the sticker says 'holographic'. I really wasn't sure what to expect, but surprisingly it is kind of like a holograph, in the light you can see slightly different shades, I can't really describe it apart from saying it looks like a holograph sticker. Helpful, I know but I do really like this colour although I'm not sure I would like it on every nail.

Cheesecake Filled Easter Eggs

So as it's Easter this weekend I was on the hunt for an easy and fun recipe, and came across this one. It's so simple to do, looks great and tastes amazing.

Benefit They're Real! V Rimmel Lash Accelerator Endless

Whilst I was queueing up in Boots a few days ago I noticed there were small samples of the Benefit They're Real! Mascara by the till for half the price of a full sized one, and me being me, I couldn't resist. I've been wanting to try this mascara out for ages to see what all the fuss is about, but never actually got round to buying one. However, this is very similar to another favourite of mine, the Rimmel Lash Accelerator Endless mascara, so I've decided to compare the two.

Let me first start by saying I really like both of these mascaras, but for me the products are very similar with a huge price difference.

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint

I've heard a lot about this new launch from Barry M and when I was in Boots I saw that the Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint was included in their 3 for 2 offer. I just can't resist a good deal so I had to give these a go. They are obviously very popular as the colours available were quite limited, but I decided on the shade 'Blood Orange' which looks more pink in the picture but is actually a gorgeous classic red.

I Heart Bioderma

Bioderma, the cult French cleanser has finally hit UK shores which had made me very happy. I have heard a lot about this cleansing water but have never actually tried it before. It seemed that you could only get it on sites like eBay, or if you were taking a trip to France where you could bring a spare suitcase to stock up.

The Dot to Dot Manicure

The dot to dot manicure is really simple to do, but looks like you have gone to a bit of effort to jazz up your normal nail colour.

Monthly Favourites: February

This month I got a few new beauty products which I have absolutely loved, one for eyes, one for lips and two for the face.

The 5:2 Diet - Week Four

Week four brought the first week where I did my two 500 calorie days consecutively, which was because of various commitments I had throughout the week. The first day wasn't too bad, I think I'm used to my Monday fasting now, and I thought that the second day would be much easier because my body would be used to it. I didn't find it really hard, but I did feel quite hungry all day. I much prefer breaking up the days because it is the thought of knowing I can eat what I want the next day that gets me through.

The George Payne, Hove

What to do on a Sunday afternoon when you don't have work? Go out for a roast of course. Being a vegetarian this is normally quite difficult. I just can't get excited about having a great slab of meat swimming in gravy served up in front of me (I realise here that this is most people's idea of a perfect Sunday). For us non meat eaters there is of course the unimaginative nut roast which I for one dislike, or the standard and completely uninspired pasta/risotto option, neither of which is really going to satisfy your Sunday lunch needs.

The 5:2 Diet - Week Three

So at the end of last week's update you might remember me saying that after my not as successful second week, my positive attitude had been restored. Well, that's only slightly a lie. I found the fast days easier this week as I've got into a routine of what works for me, it's the non fast days which are my problem. I seem to think that 'eat what you like' really means I can eat what I want. Now, I was out for dinner two nights this week, but I also consumed a number of creme eggs and snacks that perhaps I didn't really need to eat.

London Fashion Week: My Top 5 Looks

Last week I posted about my top five looks from New York Fashion Week, and this week it's London Fashion Week's turn. It seems to come and go so quickly each season, but there is so much preparation and hard work that goes into each show, and there is a great atmosphere around London.

The 5:2 Diet: Week Two

Me This Week

This week has been all about fighting the cravings. I went into week two thinking that it was going to be a doddle, as I had already survived week one. Wrong. If anything it has taken more willpower to get through the fast days and resist that afternoon treat (or morning, mid morning, early afternoon, evening, midnight...I think you get the idea). I can't explain why, but all I can put it down to is lack of enthusiasm. I went into week one thinking, 'I'm going to kick ass at this - 500 calories? No problem!' Whereas this week, it's been more like 'Is it time to go to bed yet so I can finally stop feeling hungry'. Not ideal.

New York Fashion Week: My Top 5 Looks

Marc Jacobs A/W13

I love fashion month. I think it's such an exciting time to see the newest trends on catwalk, as well as make-up and hair looks. Whether you are into fashion & beauty or not, it is going to affect you in some way. These designers, make-up artists and hairdressers are the best in the world, and they are who the high street are going to look to for inspiration for their next collections, whether it's a particular style, colour or fabric. Fashion affects us all, and I personally think it's pretty darn interesting. Also, how beautiful is this picture of the Marc Jacobs show?

Ben's Cookies Style Chocolate Chip Cookies

For today's post I have taken inspiration from Anna from Vivianna Does Make-Up, and baked the Ben's Cookies style chocolate cookies that she has been raving about. Before we go any further, I must issue a warning to you that these are seriously good and may lead to side affects including addiction, eating a whole batch in one go and a serious case of sugar overload.

Don't say I didn't warn you!

The 5:2 Diet - Week One

The fast diet, 5:2, intermittent fasting - call it what you will, but this is the latest craze in the ongoing saga of weight loss. You may or may not have heard about the newest diet on the scene, but in a nutshell it consists of eating what you like for 5 days of the week (although there is no set calorie intake on these days, common sense should prevail), and then the other two days, consecutive or not, you limit your intake to 500 calories (600 for men) over a 24 hour period.

Three Day Juice Cleanse: The Review

So I know what you might be thinking, what about day three? Well, I decided not to continue with the last day purely because it didn't think I was going to benefit from it at all, and it didn't seem worth another day of hunger. I weighed myself after day two and had lost one more lb, so a total loss of 4lbs which was more than I was expecting. As my body had gotten used to the routine of just having juice, I knew this wasn't going to change too much in one more day. I had also read loads of reviews about how energetic and great they felt on the second day, but this wasn't the case for me. I didn't feel any less energetic, but did get quite tired towards the end of both days and just generally not myself.

Three Day Juice Cleanse: Day 2

So I began day two feeling positive after losing 3lbs on day one, and again really enjoyed Juice 1 - Carrot, Orange, Ginger & Superfoods

Three Day Juice Cleanse: Day 1

A few weeks ago I saw an offer on Groupon for a discount on a three or five day juice cleanse with Soulmate Food. I’ve always thought about doing one, but they are hugely expensive and I just know I wouldn’t do it if I made the juices myself – effort! The discount was 60% off, so I thought it was a good deal and decided to take the plunge. The other positive to Soulmate Food is that they deliver outside of London, which most other companies don’t.

Leighton Denny 'Get Your Côte'

I recently got this gorgeous new colour from Leighton Denny called 'Get Your Côte' and couldn't wait to try it out. As you can see it's a beautiful turquoisey blue and I absolutely adore this shade. It's going to be perfect for spring/summer as it gives a lovely pop of colour but isn't too in your face and bright.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Brownies

I borrowed this picture from Sheerluxe - the brownie's didn't last long enough for me to photograph!

So on a rainy Saturday a couple of weeks ago I decided to make some peanut butter chocolate brownies. I saw the recipe pop up in the Sheerluxe emailer and had to make them. I love peanut butter and I also love chocolate brownies so I thought what was not to like?! I've shared my baking experience below.

Ace of Base

I've been looking for a new foundation for a while now, ever since my beloved By Terry Sheer Expert ran out. If I had the money or was still working in beauty I would have got this one again in a shot, but sadly I can't justify spending £44 on a foundation when I know there are others out there that will be just as good for half the price.

John Frieda Full Repair Sheer Mist

This is definitely one of my best discoveries of 2012 and has fast become my one of my top hair heroes. Firstly my hair is quite long, and last summer I decided to give into the trend and have a dip dye. As much as I absolutely love the colour, I cannot believe how damaged the bleach has made the ends and also how knotty it now gets. My hair before wasn't dyed and was fairly easy to manage, and I've never been one for using many products in my hair but that all changed as soon as I took the plunge and went blonde.

Mini White Chocolate & Raspberry Cupcakes

I love to bake, and for Christmas I was given this awesome mini cupcake maker. It's so easy to use and even comes with a few recipe ideas to get you started. I decided to make the white chocolate and raspberry ones with white chocolate icing. So to make these, you need the following ingredients:

diptyque Addiction

My name is Megan and I'm addicted to diptyque. There, I've said it. I should also say now that the photo above is just a small part of my collection, but my favourites.

My Skincare Routine

I thought I'd share with you the skincare products I use daily and why. Firstly I always take off my make up before I go to bed and can't stand the thought of sleeping with a full face of make up on, even after a night out. I'm lucky to have pretty good skin and have never suffered with spots, acne etc. but I think it is so important to look after your skin and use good quality products. So here goes, my daily skincare routine...
